What is Compounding?
Many of the medications you use to improve your breathing
may be compounded (blended) just for you to allow them to be used in your nebulizer
treatment. This makes your medicine easier to use. (A nebulizer is a breathing
machine that uses an air pump and a special hand piece to turn your medicine into a fine
mist that you can breathe into your lungs.)
How are Respiratory Medications
Compounded?
Respiratory Medications are compounded under sterile conditions inside a laminar
flow hood (which prevents contamination of the product being mixed).
Every precaution is taken to assure that your prescription is filled with accuracy
and just as your doctor ordered.
Benefits to You
Saves Time
All of your medications are placed in a very small volume of liquid; therefore, the
nebulizer treatment time is shortened. This makes following your doctor's
instructions easier and faster and you get greater benefits from the medicine in a shorter
amount of time.
Patients With Difficulties
For some people, nebulizer delivery is easier and more accurate to use than metered
dose inhalers, especially if you have severe arthritis of the hand, vision or coordination
difficulties, or are recovering from stroke.
Reduced Infection Risk
The risk of infection that may occur when you accidentally contaminate the dropper
may be minimized. |
